Brownwood graduate and Texas Longhorn junior receiver Jaxon Shipley has been named to the preseason watch list for the Bilentnikoff Award, which has been presented to the nation’s best receiver since 1994.
As a sophomore at Texas, Shipley (6-1, 192 lbs.) racked up 59 receptions for 737 yards and six touchdowns. For his career, Shipley has hauled in 103 receptions for 1,344 yards with nine touchdowns since arriving in Austin.
During his time at Brownwood High, Shipley was an all-state selection, compiling 2,641 yards in total offense, including 37 touchdowns, while averaging 19.2 yards per reception.
Shipley is one of 10 Big 12 receivers on the watch list, and is joined by University of Texas teammate Mike Davis.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc. will announce the 10 Biletnikoff Award semifinalists on Nov. 18 following the vote by the Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee. Likewise, the three finalists will be declared following another vote on Nov. 25. The 2013 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 12 on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show to be broadcast at 7 p.m. by ESPN.
Shipley’s older brother Jordan, a former Longhorn now playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was named to the watch list prior to the 2006 season. The last time a receiver from a Texas school won the award was 2008, when Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech won back to back awards.
