EARLY — In a close game that included three lead changes and a pitching duel, the Bosqueville Warriors scored three runs in the sixth inning to drop the Early Red Sox, 11-8, in a TTAB 8U Player Pitch state tournament elimination game Tuesday night.
The game started late due to Early’s earlier game running late, in which the Red Sox won, 8-6, defeating Eustace and knocking them out of the tournament.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the first inning with the bases loaded on a pair of singles and a walk. A wild pitch by John Stewart Gordon brought home the first Bosqueville runner.
The Red Sox bounced back in the bottom of the first with two runs on a wild pitch and a walk. The Sox then pulled off a double steal with Korbin Barr and Gordon. The game was 3-1 Sox going into the third.
The Red Sox starter Gordon pitched effectively for Early and kept the Sox in the game, working three innings and allowing five runs on six hits, with six strikeouts and four walks.
Caleb McCullough was next on the mound for the Sox as they took a 7-5 lead going into the fourth inning on strong hitting by Korbin Barr, who contributed a pair of singles, and Jeremy Brown, who walked and stole two bases, making it home on a sacrifice by Jeremiah Bean.
The Warriors took the lead in the fourth and made it 5-3 on a pair of throwing errors and wild pitches by the Sox.
Early rallied back in the fifth as McCullough doubled in two runs and Ethan Pallette had a sacrifice in the infield to make the score 7-5 Red Sox.
Early added another score in the fifth with a single RBI by Jeremy Brown to make it 8-5.
Bosqueville came back with a new pitcher who fanned Early’s final six batters, as Bosqueville drew ahead in the top of the sixth with three runs to tie the score at 8-8 in the fifth.
The Warriors added their final three runs for insurance in the sixth. The Red Sox bats went cold in the last two innings, as the Bosqueville pitcher kept throwing hard fastballs for strikes.
