RISING STAR ? Oleta Pauline “Polly” Price, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas.

Polly was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Sipe Springs, Comanche County. She was born to Edmond Dee Anderson and Effie Mae Ayers Anderson.

Polly was a graduate of May High School and earned her teaching degree from North Texas State University. She began her teaching career in Rising Star teaching Home Economics. On Dec.r 23, 1945, she was married to Wesley Thomas “W.T.” Henderson Sr., a POW survivor of World War II. W.T. re-enlisted in the Air Force moving their family to numerous places such as Fort Worth, Texas, Biloxi, Miss., Boca Raton, Fla., Kearne, Neb., Albuquerque, N.M, Caribou, Maine, and Dayton, Ohio. When W.T. retired in 1957 from the service, their family moved back to the Amity community near Rising Star, Texas. Polly returned to teaching at Sydney High School, later at Blanket, then finally back to Rising Star. She loved and supported her sons, Tom and Paul, throughout their school years and their careers as educators. She was Tom’s biggest fan at his ball games and was proud of Paul at his many Stephenville Junior High School functions.

She was an active member at First Baptist Church of Rising Star and Rising Star Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. After retiring from teaching Polly kept busy with life on the farm, teaching Sunday School classes, volunteering at the church, and volunteering at the Rising Star library. Polly was well known for her hospitality. She loved to cook and bake for family and friends in her community. She was quick to care for those in need, and frequently visited the “old people” at the Rising Star nursing home. Polly enjoyed a house full of grandkids, especially during holidays.

Polly was preceded in death by her husbands W.T. Henderson Sr., Jimmy Newbury, and Robby Price and her son, Paul.

Survivors include son, Tom and wife Annette Henderson of Sugar Land, and Linda Henderson of Stephenville, widow of Paul Henderson. Polly’s grandchildren include: Jennifer and Scott Snyder of Sugar Land, Stephanie and Scott Oberhoff of Kingwood, Leslie and Michael Kunkel of Rising Star, Kristi Steele of Stephenville, Ashlee Wooten of Stephenville, Jeff and Melonie Parker of Stephenville, and Shelley and Lance Gilliland of Stephenville. Her great-grandchildren include: Molly, Wesley and Morgan Snyder; Anna and Luke Oberhoff; Matthew and Brian Kunkel; Megan and Lacey Steele; Paige and Miles Wooten; Macy and Jayden Parker; and Luke Gilliland.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Rising Star with Terry Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Amity Cemetery in Comanche County. Visitation will be held rom 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, at the Higginbotham Chapel in Rising Star.
