TEMPLE — The Early Diamondbacks posted a 2-1 record during the first two days of the Texas Teen-Age Baseball 10U state tournament Monday and Tuesday.

The Diamondbacks defeated the Emory Bulldogs, 12-2, Monday, then dropped a 6-5 decision to the Mexia Blackcats before rallying for a 17-3 victory over Temple to conclude the second day of tournament action.

Early was slated to face either Alto or De Leon at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in elimination action. The result from the game was unknown as press time.

In the 10-run victory over Emory, the Diamondbacks tallied seven runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run inside-the-park home by Brandon Hamrick. Brennan Thompson also chipped in a home run during the second inning.

In the fourth, Tyson Tyler delivered a two-RBI double while Jace Vasquez tacked on an RBI single.

Bradley Roman and Jakob Hataway shared the workload on the mound in the four-inning encounter.

The 17-3 win over Temple featured an eight-run first inning that was jumpstarted by a triple from Hataway. Roman chipped in a home run during the second inning as Early’s lead grew to 16-2.

In the loss to Mexia, Early trailed 5-2 in the fourth inning but loaded the bases. Tyson, Hataway and Boston Hudson scored on an three-RBI triple by Thompson that knotted the score at 5.

Mexia, however, scored the decisive run on an error in the sixth inning.
