Since taking over the job as the Lady Lions Volleyball coach, Lorrie Beelby has been busy with a myriad of things. Organizing and  running the Brownwood High School volleyball camp is just one of many things that she is doing to get ready for fall camp which starts on Monday.

Running the girls through drills out on the court with a fierce intensity, it was easy to see that Beelby brings a passion to the sport.

“We love it here already,” Beelby said. Beelby just got married in June and has only been in Brownwood for a couple weeks. She did her undergraduate work at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. then coached for four years at Canyon High School near Amarillo.

She enjoys teaching the young girls the fundamentals of the game, but is eager for fall camp to begin for the Lady Lions.

“The Brownwood High School girls I have met are coachable and want to learn,” Beelby said. “I really haven't even met all the players yet, so I don't have any idea about whose coming back.”

Beelby has been making the rounds and has met a lot of the local high school coaches that she will be facing this season. The camp had a good turnout, and she looks forward to a good season at the helm of the Lady Lions, who hope to return to the playoffs after missing the postseason for the first time since 2003 last season.
