GATESVILLE — The Brownwood Lions opened play at the Gatesville tournament Friday with a pair of losses to Class 3A Lorena, 63-35, and Class A No. 11 Bartlett, 58-44.

In the opening defeat at the hands of Lorena, Brownwood trailed 19-11 after one quarter, 30-17 at halftime and 48-26 heading to the fourth period.

Scoring for the Lions were Tyler Jackson with 10 points, Cory Richardson with seven, Hayden Day with four, Tanner Donathan, Colt Garrett and Cody Richardson with three points each, Bruce Sterling with two and Rosavelt Duffie with one point.

Against undefeated Bartlett, the Lions were down 19-7 after one quarter, 37-17 at the half and trailed 43-33 through three periods.

Day’s 10 points were a team high for the Lions followed by eight from Mason Cabaniss, seven each from Jackson and Kye Healer, six from Sterling, four from Donathan and two points from Garrett.

Brownwood (0-12) is slated to face Goldthwaite at noon Saturday, then battle either China Spring or Bangs in its final game of the tournament later in the afternoon.
