LUBBOCK — The No. 22 Brownwood Lady Lions chalked up their third victory in four attempts at the Lubbock Caprock tournament on Saturday, earning the consolation championship with a 43-29 victory over Perryton.
Perryton, which had defeated Class 3A No. 5 Big Spring Friday night to reach the consolation final against Brownwood (13-4), was limited to four points in both the first and third quarters.
The Lady Lions owned a 7-4 lead after one quarter, which grew to 22-14 by halftime and 36-25 heading into the fourth period.
“I was very proud of the effort we gave all weekend and the progress we made as a team,” said Lady Lions head coach Heather Hohertz.
For the fourth straight tournament game, Keeta Vaccaro led the offensive charge for the Lady Lions with 16 points followed by 11 from Trejouir Wilson, six from Ashley Vaccaro, five from Alyson Finnigan, four from Vici Henry and one point from Sarah Fox.
Keeta Vaccaro also finished with a team-high nine rebounds and four steals, while Ashley Vaccaro dished out six assists with five steals, both team bests.
Brownwood is back in action at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday as it visits Stephenville in the final non-district game of the season.
