STEPHENVILLE — The No. 22 Brownwood Lady Lions built a nine-point lead, but starters Keeta Vaccaro and Ashley Vaccaro both fouled out as the Stephenville Honeybees rallied back for a 48-37 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Down 14-11 after one quarter, the Lady Lions surged in front 24-19 at halftime. Behind a 21-9 scoring edge in the third period, Stephenville reclaimed a 40-33 advantage and Brownwood mustered just four points in the final period.
Keeta Vaccaro finished with a team-high 16 points in only 18 minutes of action trailed by Trejouir Wilson with 15. The only other Lady Lions to score were Alyson Finnigan and Vici Henry with two points apiece and Ashley Vaccaro with one point.
Brownwood (13-5) was coming off a consolation championship and 3-1 performance at the Lubbock Caprock tournament.
The Lady Lions will return to action Friday when they host the Burnet Lady Bulldogs in the District 8-3A opener. Brownwood has reached the playoffs in four consecutive seasons.
