The Brownwood Lions recorded the first goal of their District 34-4A soccer opener against Gatesville, but couldn’t duplicate that feat in a 3-1 loss Tuesday night.

Austin Snyder put the Lions (4-5-2, 0-1) in front 1-0 eight minutes into the game, but Gatesville broke a 1-1 tie with 19 minutes left and added an insurance goal in the final 50 seconds.

“This is the best I’ve seen us play as far as being on the same page,” said Lions first-year head coach Blake Danaher. “We just failed to make a few more attacking plays on goal and creating chances to put the ball in the net. We have to figure out how to get chances and attack the entire game, not just the first half or the second half.”
