CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets suffered their third straight American Southwest Conference loss to fall to fifth place in the league standings as Ozarks pulled a 66-61 upset Saturday afternoon.

Howard Payne (12-9, 11-7) shot 39 percent (24 of 62) from the floor and a mere 14 percent (2 of 14) from three-point land.

The Lady Jackets attempted only 15 free throws, converting 11, while Ozarks was 16 of 26 at the line. Howard Payne was also outrebounded, 45-42.

Britani Gattis finished with 16 points for HPU trailed by 15 from Sarah Van Remmen, eight from Danyel Bradley, seven from Shardena Hudson, six from Kalin Hanna, five from Yessenia Cazares and four points from McKinley Meyer.

Taylor Farmer tallied 23 points for Ozarks (8-13, 7-11) followed by 19 from Kindra Davis and 15 points from Ashley Hipps.

Ozarks 83, Yellow Jackets 73

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets remained 2.5 games behind eighth-place East Texas Baptist with four left in the race for the American Southwest Conference tournament, but slipped to 11th place in the league standings after an 83-73 defeat at the hands of Ozarks Saturday.

The loss was the sixth straight for HPU (4-7, 4-14) and 10th in the last 11 outings — all conference games.

Ozarks (7-14, 5-13), which climbed ahead of HPU in the ASC standings with the win, drained 13 three-pointers compared to two for the Yellow Jackets.

Brandon Gould led HPU with 19 points followed by Donovan Ford with 17, Quelan Lancaster with 13, Jorden Young with nine, Ross Whittet with five, Joshua Cormier and Nigele Robertson with four points each and Blake Arbogast with two points.

Rickey Allen scored 23 for Ozarks.

HPU will play its final home games of the regular season this week as Mississippi College visits Thursday followed by Louisiana College Saturday.
