SAN ANGELO — Grover Oran Reat, retired Colonel U. S. Air Force of Brownwood, Texas, formerly of San Angelo, Texas, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at his residence.
Col. Reat was born Sept. 26, 1918, to Ada and Travis Reat in Dime Box, Texas. He attended school in Marlin, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin 1939. He was married to Jane Watkins in Llano, Texas, in 1942, who preceded him in death March 16, 2001.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Ann and James Lunn of Sandia Park, N.M., Judy and Larry Ehrke of Brownwood, Texas, and Jackie and Clarke Erskine of Wimberly, Texas. Also surviving him are grandchildren, Jennifer Abernathy of China Spring, Texas, Brenda Leuellen of Hutto, Texas, Eric McNeese of Brownwood, Texas, and Brian Erskine of Austin, Texas. As well as five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Col. Reat served in the Pacific Theater during World War II as an Army Air Corps navigator. He was recalled in the USAF during the Korean conflict and served in the Security Service the rest of his 33 years of service which was spent throughout the world. He ended his career as commander of Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Texas, from 1969- 1971.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
