The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets head into the final weekend of the American Southwest Conference basketball season needing two victories, and some help, to keep their postseason dream alive.

Fighting for their first berth in the ASC tournament since 2008, the Yellow Jackets (5-18, 5-15)trail eighth seed East Texas Baptist (8-14, 6-13) by 1.5 games, and ninth seed Ozarks (8-15, 6-14) by one game.

While most of the conference finishes play Saturday, ETBU will play its finale against LeTourneau on Monday, which could leave HPU’s fate up in the air until then, depending on outcomes.

The Yellow Jackets — coming off a crucial 70-67 victory over Louisiana College that snapped a seven-game slump — visit last-place LeTourneau (4-18, 3-16) at 7:30 p.m. tonight and ETBU at 3 p.m. Saturday.

ETBU hosts Sul Ross (10-13, 9-11) tonight, while Ozarks travels to Mississippi College (9-13, 7-12). On Saturday, Ozarks will battle Louisiana College (9-12, 9-10).

An HPU loss in either contest would oust them from postseason contention. The Jackets are seeking a season-best three consecutive victories after dropping 11 of their last 13 outings.
