Early voting continues to have strong turnout
If you didn't know different, you might think Brown County Elections Administrator Suzy Young's message Friday afternoon was a bit scolding in nature.
"Get on out to the polls!" Young said.
Young was anything but scolding. Her message was along the lines of "keep 'em comin.'"
Young was pleased that the early voting turnout for the March 4 primary elections has continued on a strong pace after starting off strong Tuesday, the first day of early voting. The early voting period continues through Feb. 28.
As of Friday afternoon, a total of 1,138 early votes had been cast. After four days. In 2012, the total number of ballots cast for the entire early voting period was 2,010, Young said.
"We've had a strong voter turnout," Young said. She said it appears local candidates in contested races "are getting their people out to vote."
Elections officials remind voters to bring photo identification to meet the requirements of the new voter ID law. There have been no issues so far in Brown County, elections officials said.
Polling hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the final two days of early voting. On Thursday and Friday, polling hours will be to 7 p.m.
