GATESVILLE The Brownwood Lions avenged their only loss in District 34-4A soccer action thus far, blanking the Gatesville Hornets, 2-0, Friday night to start the second half of league action.

The Lions (9-5-2, 5-1), who are alone atop the district standings, scored in the first half off the foot of Johnny Montgomery, then Aaron Jimenez found the net in the second half.

Head coach Blake Danaher also praised the defensive performances of backer Nathan Lenz, as well as keeper Brandon Diaz, who posted the shutout despite a collision in the box that resulted in a nasty cut above his eye.

The Lions will visit Lampasas at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
