PLANO ó The Brownwood Lions had three runners thrown out at home plate and left the tying run stranded at third in a 2-1 loss to Plano John Paul II Saturday, concluding their stay at the Prestonwood Christian Academy tournament.

The Lions (1-4) committed three errors in the first inning, which allowed both JPII runs to score.

Brownwood cut the lead in half in the fourth inning as Bradly Durandís RBI single scored Carson Cloy, who reached on a fielderís choice. Rawlings Rios walked ahead of Durandís hit, and Carson McAnally followed with a hit to deep center, but Rios was thrown out at the plate.

The Lions also unsuccessfully attempted a squeeze bunt in the third inning and had a runner thrown out at home on a grounder to the JPII shortstop in the fifth.

In the top of the seventh, Durand led off with a single and advanced to third base with one out, but the Lions could not push across the tying run.

Seth Owen pitched the duration for the Lions, allowing two unearned runs with a pair of strikeouts.

At the plate, Durand tallied two hits, Owen and Trent Carlton both doubled and McAnally added a hit.

The Lions will attempt to bounce back at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Glen Rose.
