Fundraising for 2014 Relay for Life in Brown County is underway. This year's theme is We Can Be Heroes. Currently, ten teams with 27 participants are registered. Relay for Life is an effort reaching across 20 countries, with more than 4 million participants, each year, combining forces to raise money for the American Cancer Society and increase awareness of the causes and preventions of cancer.

Saturday was Team Kickoff, with some of the teams setting up in the parking lot of Walgreens to recruit members and receive donations. The event organizers were also on hand to register new teams.

Each of the ten teams will have various fundraisers, leading up to the all-night event, to be held from 7 p.m. June 6 until 7 a.m. June 7, at Gordon Wood Stadium. A few fundraising events have already been scheduled.

Team Girling Hospice Super Bowlers will host a Bunco tournament from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Early Small Business Incubator, located at 104 E. Industrial Blvd. Tickets are $10. For more information, call Lainey at (325)642-0463.

Team IntegraCare Home Health will host a Bunco tournament from 6 to 8 p.m., March 18, at The Chatfield, located at 1605 Calvert Rd. Tickets are $10. For more information, call Tammy at (325)642-1319.

Team CMS Health Care is sponsoring a BBQ dinner and dance, April 25 at the 3M Clubhouse. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a "social hour", followed by the dinner at 7 p.m., and the dance from 9:30 to 11 p.m., with live music from the Bush Holloway Band. Each team has a page at which donors may contribute on behalf of the team in general or choose an individual member. Prizes are awarded to the top fundraisers.
