LEANDER — The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions track and field teams both finished first overall at this past week’s Leander Rouse Early Bird Relays.
The Lady Lions generated 171 points, which pushed them in front of Lorena’s runner-up total of 162.5 points, while the Lions produced 159.5 points as they edged out second-place Round Rock Stoney Point, which garnered 154 points.
On the girls side, the Lady Lions earned gold medals in six events, silver in six more and one bronze medal.
Placing first for Brownwood were Lexie Lewis in the 200 meters (25.49), Dominique Revada in the 300-meter hurdles (50.9), Jessica Romero in the 1600 meters (5:52), the 4x200 relay team of Ebonie Adams, Sharday Melvin, LaKisha Anthony and Lewis (1:47), the 4x400 relay team of Adams, Lewis, Anthony and Melvin (4:19) and the distance medley team of Victoria Hood, Adams, Julianne Hood and Romero (14:03).
Coming in second were Julianne Hood in the 800 meters (2:38.27), Brigette Everett in the shot put (29-4.75), Victoria Hood in the 1600 meters (5:54), Melvin in the triple jump (34-6), McKenzie Cox in the high jump (5-0) and the 4x100 team of Teara Burleson, Kylie Ellis, Amanda Chambers and Anthony (53.4).
The lone third-place effort was turned in by Tyanna Selvie-Stewart in the shot put (26-10).
Finishing fourth was Kim Ervin in both the 100-meter hurdles (17.9) and the 300-meter hurdles (54.24), while Burleson was fifth in the 200 meters (29.06) as was Kamrey Windham in the triple jump (32-2). Earning points in sixth place were Melvin the 100-meter hurdles (20-02) and Alexis Gil in the 1600 meters (6:24).
In the boys draw, the Lions returned home with five gold medals, six silver medals and one bronze.
Winning their respective events were Kaimon Ontiveros in the 200 meters (23.05), Justin Gomez in the 3200 meters (11:37), Xavier Armenta in the 110-meter hurdles (16.14), Matthew Gomez in the pole vault (12-6) and the mile relay team of Chevy Robertson, Bryan Johnson, Tristan Duque and Connor Howard (3:49).
Chalking up second-place finishes were Joe Zapata in the high jump (5-10), Howard in the 300-meter hurdles (43.49), McLane Moore in the pole vault (12-0), the sprint relay team of Duque, Bruce Sterling, Ontiveros and Howard (44.84), the 800-meter relay team of
Robertson, Zapata, Ontiveros and Sterling (1:35) and the distance medley team of Dylan Person, Journey Buitron, Bryan Johnson and Ben Berger (12:13).
Colt Garrett, in the 400 meters (57.03), was the only third-place finisher.
Placing fourth were Duque in the 100 meters (11.37), Zapata in the 200 meters (24.01) and Devante Stredic in the shot put (40-11). Coming in fifth were Robertson in the 200 meters (24.4), Mackey Gibson in the discus (115-7) and Rosavelt Duffie in the triple jump (37-5.5). Finishing sixth were Stredic in the discus (109-6), Sterling in the 100 meters (11.46), Duque in the high jump (5-6) and Corleone Pressley in the triple jump (36-3.5).
The Lions and Lady Lions will compete in the Decatur Relays on Thursday, then host the annual Bluebonnet Invitational March 7-8 at Gordon Wood Stadium.
