GLEN ROSE — Trailing by a pair of runs going into their final at-bat, the Brownwood Lions struck for eight in the top of the seventh of a 12-6 win over the Glen Rose Tigers Tuesday.
With the victory, the Lions (2-5) snapped a four-game skid after dropping all their games at the Prestonwood Christian Academy tournament this past weekend.
Down 6-4 with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, Trent Carlton reached on an error that scored a run, then Rawlings Rios beat out a bunt to knot the score at 6. Seth Owen followed with a bases loaded walk to push the Lions in front, 7-6, then Cojo Guidry and Hayden Day followed with RBI base hits to stretch the lead to 10-6. Durand later reached on a two-out error that extended the Lions’ cushion to 12-6.
Brownwood also erased an early 3-0 deficit with a four-run top of the fourth.
Durand and Elijah Salazar began the fourth by reaching on bobbled grounders to shortstop. Carson Cloy followed with a two-RBI triple that trimmed the deficit to 3-2. Cloy later scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Rios that knotted the score at 3. Guidry then drove in Rios with a two-out RBI base hit for a short-lived 4-3 edge.
