Brownwood police arrested a man Wednesday in connection with an earlier incident in which the man's wife was stabbed in the arm, allegedly during an altercation between the two.
Jerry Leonard, 31, remained jailed Thursday morning on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest with previous conviction, Brown County Jail records state. His bond was set at $50,000.
According to police reports:
Police were searching the area behind apartments in the 1700 block of Third, seeking the suspect who had fled following an altercation in which the suspect's wife was stabbed in one of her forearms. The stabbing happened earlier Wednesday in a parking lot outside the apartments in the 1700 block of Third. The suspect had gotten into a vehicle with another woman and was driven away.
As police searched near the apartments Wednesday afternoon, police heard a man say "the cops are walking around." The man who said those words was in a bathroom in one of the apartments.
Police learned that Leonard had been in the apartment's bathroom and had climbed through a window to get outside. Police searched for Leonard and learned he had called someone for a ride, and was at Good Shepherd Apartments.
Police located Leonard in one of the apartments. He started to climb through a window but went back inside when he saw an officer nearby, and police took him into custody.
