EASTLAND — The Bangs Dragons climbed over the .500 mark with a 4-0 victory against Anson in Eastland tournament action Friday.
The Dragons (4-3), who racked up eight hits, scored once in the fifth inning and added three more runs in the top of the seventh.
J.T. Newton tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 12 batters while walking three. Newton was also 1-for-2 at the plate with a solo home run, a pair of walks and two runs scored.
Chuy Alvarado and Brady Glover both went 2-for-4 at the plate and Alvarado contributed an RBI. Tanner Shaw finished 1-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs, while Chance Beck and Daniel Malett added one hit apiece.
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Newton opened the scoring for Bangs with his line drive blast to center field,
During the three-run seventh, Shaw singled home Malett, who led off with a base hit, and Brayden James, who drew a walk, to stretch the lead to 3-0. Glover later singled home Newton, who drew a walk, with the final run.
