The Brownwood Lions blanked Robinson in their first District 34-4A soccer meeting by an 8-0 count on Feb. 11. In Friday’s rematch at Gordon Wood Stadium, the Lions matched those eight goals in the first half alone en route to a 12-0 victory.

The Lions (10-6-2, 6-2) were coming off a 4-2 loss at Lampasas Friday, which snapped a five-game district win streak. Brownwood is still in the hunt for the 34-4A championship with games remaining at home against Salado at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and at Lorena on March 14.

Austin Snyder recorded four goals for Lions, Daniel Martinez contributed three and Aaron Jimenez found the net twice. Tacking one goal apiece were Justin Gomez, Connor Vara and Dylan Person.

“We came out and knew what we had to do,” said Lions first-year head coach Blake Danaher. “We had combinations and after we got a couple in the net we just sat back and tried to do a couple of things we do at the training field and apply it to the game.

“With the numbers we have right now, or lack thereof, it was very important to get some guys in who haven’t had many minutes this whole entire season.”

Lady Lions 1, Robinson 0

The Brownwood Lady Lions avenged their first District 34-4A loss, and avoided their first district losing streak, by edging Robinson, 1-0, Friday at Howard Payne’s Citizens National Bank Field.

The game was moved to accommodate the Junior Bluebonnet Relays being held at Gordon Wood Stadium Friday night.

The Lady Lions (11-5-2, 6-2) were coming off a 1-0 loss at first-place Lampasas and had dropped a 2-0 overtime decision at third-place Robinson in the first meeting on Feb. 11.

In Friday’s rematch, Josie Borgia accounted for the only goal as she scored off a Jennifer Martinez corner keep midway through the first half.

“I don’t think we’ve finished a ball in the corner all year, so it couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Keith Robinson. “Overall I felt we played very well. We changed a few things formation-wise to give us a little more stability in the back, but we didn’t quite create enough up top.”
