The Howard Payne Lady Jackets’ drought was extended to eight games Friday as No. 8 East Texas Baptist took the first two contests in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader, 4-1 and 11-0, at Lady Jacket Field.

The Lady Jackets slipped to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in ASC action following the losses, with the series finale slated to begin at noon today.

In Friday’s first game, the Lady Jackets were limited to four hits by ETBU (9-0, 8-0) hurler Shelby Parker — who struck out 15 batters.

Jessica Morales notched two hits, including a sixth-inning double, out of her leadoff spot in the order for HPU, while Pricilla Patino and Beth Mullins also collected hits.

HPU’s lone run of the day scored in the bottom of the seventh inning as Patino led off with a single, then Erin McLeod and Mullins followed by reaching on consecutive errors, which allowed Patino to score.

Tayler Rushing pitched all seven innings for HPU, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

In Friday’s second game, the Lady Jackets fell victim to a perfect game by Kelly Jo McLendon, who struck out 10 batters.

For HPU, Adrienne Sanchez gave up seven earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout and three walks in 3.1 innings. Morgan Ashmore worked 1.2 innings and yielded three runs on five hits with one strikeout.
