HAMILTON — Behind an eight-run second inning, the Early Longhorns had little trouble coasting past the Goldthwaite Eagles for a 12-0 victory Friday in Hamilton baseball tournament action.

The Longhorns (5-2-1) generated only four hits, but drew six walks and were aided by five Goldthwaite errors.

J.W. Ledbetter finished 2-for-2 with an RBI for Early, while Stephen Hlis was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Abel Hernandez also contributed one hit and one RBI, while other Longhorns credited with RBIs were Jared Crouch, Tres Underwood, Kellan Jackson and Jake Fisher.

On the mound, Underwood pitched all five innings for the Longhorns and surrendered a mere one hit with 11 strikeouts and three walks.

Leading 2-0 after one inning, Early’s eight-run second began with Chris Johnston reaching on an error and later scoring on an error.

Nick Alcorta also reached on an error that plated Crouch, while Ledbetter delivered an RBI single that scored Tim Wade, running for Underwood, who walked.

Jackson walked ahead of a bases-loaded free pass to Hlis, then Hernandez followed with an RBI ground out.

Another error allowed Johnston to reach again and a run to score, then Fisher chipped in an RBI ground out.
