A Brownwood man faces two indictments in connection his alleged actions following a March 4 traffic accident in south Brownwood.
The April session of the Brown County Grand Jury returned indictments for evidence tampering and possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone against John Bailey Carney, 40, 35th District Court records state.
City Marshal Dean Kilburn had stopped at a two-vehicle collision at Fourth and Avenue K and one of the drivers took off running, Brownwood police said earlier.
Brownwood officers searched for the driver and an officer got into a foot pursuit. The officer deployed his Taser and the suspect went down. Officers saw that the suspect had a container with methamphetamine in his hand, and had a small piece of plastic tubing with a small scoop in his mouth, police said. An officer was able to retrieve the object before the suspect could swallow it. The tubing and scoop contained a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
