Lauren Alyssa Shero and Colton Cheyenne Mays exchanged vows at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the Early Church of Christ. Paul Shero and Bo Shero, uncles of the bride officiated. Lauren is the daughter of David and Alysbelle Shero of Brownwood and the granddaughter of the late Claude and Ernestine Hudson. Other grandparents include John and Jean Shero and step-grandmother, Elsie Shero. Colton is the son of Tony Mays of Dangerfield and Kathy Sparks of Brownwood.
The wedding party included Callie Billingsly, cousin of the bride, Katie Shero, sister-in-law of the bride, and Jacque Stewart, college friend, as bridesmaids. The groomsmen were Michael Ray and John David Cox, friends of the groom, and Joshua Mays, brother of the groom. Flower girls were Mia and Alyssa Prentice, nieces of the groom. The other members of the party were cousins of the bride. Amber Leenerts and Jessica Rackley rang bells to honor those family members who had passed away. Ben Rackley served as ring bearer, and Natasha Leenerts carried a "Here Comes the Bride" sign lovingly made by friend, Amber Witcher. Ushers were Austin Shero and Quaide Mays, brothers of the bride and groom. Ceremony music included "Just the Way You Are," "Lucky," and selections from Casting Crowns.
Lauren's colors included shades of purple, lime, and pale green. Her flowers were pale green teas roses, lime gerbers with purple and white accents, wrapped with lace from her mother's wedding veil and pinned with her great-grandmother's jewelry. Her dress was pure white accented with a waist flower of satin. Her white Converse sneaker were sparkled with purple and tulle. She also wore her grandmother's wedding ring. Her bridesmaids wore deep purple daytime dresses and carried bouquets in shades of green. Colton's groomsmen wore green ties and purple boutonnieres.
The reception was held in the back of the auditorium which was draped with tulle, lights, and ribbon. Refreshment tables were set with crystal and linen from the bride's grandmothers and were attended by house party members BaiLee Evans, Kayla Hullum, Ashley Leenerts, and Sommer Martin. The couple's cake, displayed on a lighted glass block stand crafted by the bride's father, was multi-tiered and decorated with pale purple and green polka dots and floral accents. Their table was completed with a Mickey and Minnie bride and groom and a personalized cross-titch created by the bride's mother. The drink table featured a silver punch bowl, loaned by Ramona Thedford, a water carafe loaned by Dee Witcher, and favorite treats of Lauren and Colton.
Friends who also made their wonderful day possible include Linda Worley, Cebia Martin, Sheron Watts, Rhonda Roark, Beth Haffner, Perry Sims, Savannah and Cale Courtright, Geoff and Jamie Carroll, and Johnna Shero.
Following a honeymoon in Glen Rose, the couple is at home in San Saba, where Lauren teaches elementary music, and Colton is the manager at Dollar General.
