The Brown County Historical Commission is still accepting applications from descendants of Brown County early settlers who arrived in Brown County prior to Dec. 31, 1910.
Since the program started in 1998 a total of 304 individuals have made application and have been approved by the Brown County Historical Commission. These certificates have been sent to not only people here in Brown County, but also all over Texas and through out the United States who wanted to keep the ties to Brown County alive.
One may obtain applications from Jerry C. Spain, vice-chairman, 1507 Vincent, Brownwood, Texas, 76801 or by calling him at his home at (325) 646-2934. The application may also be obtained by pulling up the web-site at www.browncountyhistory.org. An $18 fee is due when the application is made.
The first certificates that were issued for serval years were rather large and perhaps difficult to find frames to fit them. We have in the past year developed a new more colorful certificate which is no 8 ½ X 11 and even better than the first. If you wish to see one of the new certificates before you apply please go by the Brown County Genealogical Library across from the Brown County Court House to see one displayed there.
The Brown County pioneer Program is an on going program with the Brown County Historical Commission so there is no end date on applying.
Jerry C. Spain, Vice-Chairman
