The Stephenville High School Stingerettes won big this weekend at the Danceline Productions Classic State Championship competition in Weatherford, including first place State Grand Champions in the large varsity class 1 team category.

“Until last year the Stings competed as divided JV and varsity teams. This is our first time winning a Grand Champion title and also first state title together as one varsity level team.,” said the Stings Director Kimberly Kelsey. “It’s a tougher size class to compete in and we had a lot of unique challenges to work through this season.”

The Stingerettes won a total of 15 awards at the competition, which include:

Division 1 ratings -

Solos: Cassidy Balder, Tara Garza and Rebecca Tuggle.

Trios: Kaitlin Garcia, Summer Greer and Amanda Jones.

Medium ensemble SHS seniors: Cassidy Balder, Riley Cosby, Maurie Dodson, Kaitlin Garcia, Summer Greer, Amanda Jones and Emily Miller.

First place State Grand Champions - Large varsity class 1 team.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the girls’ hard work and dedication,” Kelsey said. “They are very deserving of this prestigious recognition.”

The Stingerettes will conclude their competition season with an encore performance of all their routines at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stephenville High School.
