Students from the Brownwood Middle School Band competed in the Region 7 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest hosted at Tarleton State University on Wednesday, April 5.

The band received 4 Superior ratings and 2 Excellent ratings earning them a UIL Sweepstakes Award. This is the third time in Brownwood Middle School Band history to earn a Sweepstakes.

The band received many positive comments from contest judges. Virginia Olsovsky, band director from Cross Timbers Middle School noted that the band “played with such a beautiful blend and tone.” She added that the band is “very musical, and a well-trained ensemble.”

“This is a very good band,” stated Brent Colwell, band director from Temple College.

“Good style, well controlled, and nice blend,” wrote Denise Stitzel, director from Mansfield ISD, also noting the good discipline in the band. “I enjoyed your performance!”

“Congratulations to the band for an outstanding performance,” stated school band officials. “Thank you for all of the hard work.”

The Brownwood Middle School Band will perform at the upcoming “Night of the Arts” hosted at Brownwood Middle School on Thursday, April 20. The event will include band and choir performances, an art gallery hosted by the art students, and an opportunity to view the latest wood shop and metal shop building projects.
