A man who drove himself to the Brown County Jail late Friday night to keep a weekend jail commitment was arrested in the parking lot on a DWI charge, police said.
Mark Hernandez, 28, told Brownwood police Cpl. Brandon Johnson he had driven from Fort Worth to turn himself in, John’s report states. Hernandez’s belt was undone and his pants were falling down, and Johnson arrested Hernandez after believing he saw signs of intoxication.
Hernandez served weekends in April on a theft charge, jail records state.
    According to Johnson’s report:
Johnson was dispatched shortly after 11 p.m. to the Law Enforcement Center on a report of a reckless driver. A dispatcher said a caller had reported being nearly run off the road by a truck in Early.
The truck was passing the Stripes store on West Commerce and was driving into oncoming traffic, and then turned into he Law Enforcement Center parking lot, the caller reported.
The dispatcher told Johnson she could see Hernandez’s truck in the parking lot on a video monitor. Hernandez backed the truck over a curb, and then drove forward until the truck was off the curb, the dispatcher told Johnson.
Johnson drove up and walked up to Hernandez’s truck. Hernandez got out, showing signs of intoxication, Johnson’s report alleged.
Hernandez said he was there for his weekend commitment, but he was not allowed to receive weekend credit because of the DWI arrest, jail officials said. Hernandez bonded out of jail Saturday on the DWI charge.
