Brownwood school board members approved 2.5 percent raises for teachers Monday night and awarded bids for the improvements of parking lots at two elementary schools.
Superintendent Dr. Joe Young said the board decided on the 2.5 percent amount — the same increase as the previous year — and did not chose a larger increase because of uncertainty about what will happen to the cost of health insurance.
The cost is expected to increase, Young said, and the district didn’t want to grant a larger pay increase and then have to rescind it because of the cost of health insurance.
In other action Monday, the board awarded bids for parking lot projects at Northwest and Coggin elementary schools.
The board awarded a $92,027 bid to Russell Construction of Early to improve the parking lot across the street from Coggin Elementary. Waldrop Construction of Brownwood won a $73,972 bid to improve the parking lot behind Northwest Elementary School.
