A Michigan man is free on bond after he was arrested Saturday night on a DWI charge following a near-collision with an off-duty law enforcement officer’s vehicle.
    Deputy Jose Rodriguez arrested Douglas Merrow, 58, on the charge after his vehicle nearly collided with the off-duty officer’s vehicle on C.C. Woodson, Rodriguez’s report states.
    Merrow was driving east on the wrong side of the road and his vehicle nearly collided with the officer’s westbound vehicle, the report states.
    In other incidents:
    • A two-man unit of Cpl. Joe Thomas and deputy Toby Mathis responded Friday to the area of Highway 279 and FM 2492 after a Brownwood officer reported a vehicle was traveling north in excess of 100 mph.
    The deputies located the vehicle, and Thomas activated their patrol vehicle’s lights and siren. The driver did not stop and nearly lost control at Park Road 15, regained control and kept going north. The driver turned onto County Road 105, and Thomas lost sight of the vehicle. Thomas saw damage to a fence and saw the vehicle off the road, wrecked.
    Despite an extensive search, deputies could not locate the driver, who left behind identifying information and a small amount of marijuana.
    • Deputy Shade Tidwell Saturday met with a man who said someone used his identifying information to open several credit cards.
    • Deputy Kaleb Hopson responded Friday to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center emergency room on a report of a kitten bite.
    • Thomas responded Friday to County Road 334, where a man said someone took tools and a window air conditioner from a home being remodeled.
