The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what is believed to be an internal theft of more than $100,000 from the Lake Brownwood Lion’s Club, Sheriff Vance Hill said.
Two suspects are listed on a report written by deputy Kaleb Hopson, who spoke with a representative of the club on July 24.
Hill declined to comment on the suspects and he would not say whether sheriff’s officials have spoken with them.
Sheriff’s officials and Lions Club representatives are conducting joint audits of the club’s accounts, Hill said.
“The monetary theft is of a substantial enough amount that the Lions Club had to recall some previously-awarded grants given to various students,” Hill said.
The theft occurred “over and extended period of time,” Hill said. “We are continuing the investigation.”
