Registration is now open for Brown County Toys for Kids, an annual Christmas toy drive that helps area families in need.
Through Nov. 22, parents can register their children to receive free donated Christmas toys at Grand Starz on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Parents will need each child’s social security card and a personal ID.
Registration will expand to five days a week from Nov. 27 to Dec. 13, and toy distribution day is Dec. 16. All registered parents will come to Grand Starz to collect their toys that day.
Wanda Martin is the director of Brown County Toys for Kids. She said community members who want to donate toys or money to the nonprofit can visit Grand Starz during registration hours or send them to P.O. Box 912, Brownwood, 76804.
The Brownwood fire stations are also acting as drop-off points for toy donations.
Dec. 13 will be the final day of registrations and donations this year, and local radio stations KOXE and Wendlee Broadcasting will hold their annual toy drive that day. Distribution day is that Saturday, Dec. 16, and Toys for Kids is asking for approximately 200 volunteers to to work a portion of the event between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Volunteers will help wrap gifts, escort parents into the toy storage warehouse, monitor the parking lots and greet guests.
