A mid-afternoon fire Tuesday destroyed a house and travel trailer near Lake Brownwood, and embers blew down a hill and damaged another home, Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston said.
There were no injuries in the fire at 7057 Killarney Drive, which began around 2:30 p.m., Preston said. He had not determined the cause, but Maria Wilkins, a neighbor across the street, said the fire started with a grill, then jumped over to the travel trailer.
“The (propane) tanks started going off, and four of them went off before (the fire department) got here,” Wilkins said. “Then they pulled four (tanks) out before they went off, too.”
Preston, speaking by phone late Tuesday afternoon, said he had not heard of those details.
Preston said one person lived in the house and one person lived in the travel trailer. They are both military personnel assigned to Camp Bowie, Preston said. No one was at home when the fire began, he said.
Preston said he has an idea where the fire started but is waiting on additional information to confirm his belief.
