A Lake Brownwood man is free on bonds totaling $150,000 after he was arrested Saturday on allegations that he sexually assaulted a mentally disabled woman two times, sheriff’s officials said.

Jason Smith, 43, was arrested on two warrants for aggravated sexual assault of an elderly or disabled person, Brown County Jail records state.

Deputy Marvin Simpson responded to a residence on April 12 in reference to a mentally disabled woman making an outcry of sexual assault, a complaint by sheriff’s investigator Robert Ramirez states. The woman said she was sexually assaulted two times.

According to Ramirez’s complaint:

The woman said the suspect asked her she if consented before allegedly committing the first assault, and the woman answered yes because she feared the suspect. The woman was taken to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene for a sexual assault examination and gave “consistent” statements to a forensic interviewer.

The suspect has made indirect statements via text messages, email and verbal statements to several witnesses apologizing for his action. One of the suspect’s relatives said the suspect admitted to having sex with the disabled woman on two occasions.
