Fifteen Brown County high school seniors visited TexasBank in Brownwood Thursday morning and received scholarships of $1,000 each.
TexasBank presented the students with the scholarships through the James and Dorothy Doss Foundation. Greg Dodds, president and CEO of TexasBank, presented each student with a scholarship certificate at a reception in the students’ honor, and talked with each student briefly about his or her plans.
TexasBank is gifting institutions with a total of $88,000 in scholarships through the foundation.
Institutions benefiting from the scholarships funds include Howard Payne University ($25,000), Tarleton State University ($25,000), Texas State Technical College Regents Circle ($5,000) and $33,000 to students graduating from high schools in Brown, Comanche, Eastland and Erath counties.
Dodds presented scholarship certificates Thursday morning to students from:
• Bangs — Katelynn Gotcher, Alek Mendoza and Payden Eason
• Brownwood — Haleigh Clevenger, Madi Gosch, Hunter Mares, Rylan Reagan and Cheyenne Stroope
• Blanket — Marki Kinkade
• Brookesmith — Chyna Allgood
• Early — Peyton Carey, Bri Mason and Carmen Atteberry
• May — Yadira Rodriguez
• Zephyr — Meadow Reynolds
“We’re glad at TexasBank to be able to be in a position that we can provide these scholarships to you,” Dodds said. “ … Hopefully by doing so we’re leaving you guys with a good impression of Brownwood and of your communities and the surrounding communities.”
Dodds told the students the hope is that they will “come back here some day. … We want to keep the rural area of Texas vibrant, and we want to make it a place that you guys want to come home and raise your families some day.”
