Guy Andrews, executive director of the Brownwood Municipal Development District, has been hired to lead the City of San Angelo’s job-creation efforts as its economic developer.
Andrews’ hiring was announced in a press release from the City of San Angelo’s public information division.
Andrews, who has been leading Brownwood’s economic development since 2015, said his last day on the job in Brownwood is May 31. Andrews begins his new job in San Angelo on June 4.
“I wanted to say to each and every one of you, how much I appreciate the privilege of serving Brownwood for the past near three years,” Andrews told city officials at Tuesday’s city council meeting. “We leave with very mixed feelings. We love the people of Brownwood.
“I wasn’t looking for another position when this came up. I just happen to have the background and qualifications that San Angelo is looking for. I was encouraged to apply for that. I will continue to support Brownwood. San Angelo’s not in competition at all with Brownwood.”
Andrews, who was selected from among 51 applicants for the San Angelo job, said he learned of his selection Friday.
“I am very proud of Guy to have been selected as the executive director of the San Angelo Development Corp.,” Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford said. “It is a great opportunity for him, and I wish him much success.”
The San Angelo press release said Andrews’ accomplishments in Brownwood include:
• Improved marketing for Brownwood’s sports complex
• Recruited Hendrick Medical Center to open a surgical center and medical plaza
• Created a building improvement incentive program
• Facilitated a $7 million expansion of Wright Asphalt
• Recruited an oilfield manufacturer to replace a failing agriculture product manufacturer
