The Department of Public Safety released details on the two-vehicle accident that took the life of a Brownwood woman Tuesday afternoon on State Highway 279.
According to the DPS:
Judy Baker, 63, was killed in the 4:09 p.m. accident, which happened at the intersection with County Road 134, a half-mile north of Brownwood.
Baker was a passenger in a 2009 Ford Explorer driven by Gary Dan Baker, 62. The Explorer was traveling north and the driver stopped at the intersection of CR 134 to make a left turn. The driver turned left in front of a 2016 Dodge pickup pulling a trailer, driven by Logan Allumbaugh 26, of Tuscola.
The pickup struck the Explorer on the right side. Both vehicles went off the road. A utility pole was knocked over and fell onto the vehicles, causing a fire and knocking out power.
Others at the scene pulled the driver from the Explorer but could not get the passenger out. Judy Baker was pronounced dead at the scene. Dan Baker was flown by helicopter to a Dallas hospital.
Allumbaugh was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries.
