The Early Chamber of Commerce seeks to hire its third executive director this year following current director Shannan Burch’s resignation.
Burch made her announcement Friday, attributing health issues and spending more time with her family as the reason for her sudden departure.
“I wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude for being allowed the opportunity to be your director,” Burch stated in her press release. “These past several months have been amazing, as I have had the chance to work with and meet some amazing people.”
Burch began her tenure as executive director in April, replacing former director Shelly Taft, after Taft announced her plans to resign in order to take a teaching position for Bangs ISD. Since joining the chamber, Burch oversaw the opening of Hobby Lobby location, a new Burger King franchise on Early Boulevard and was a prominent supporter of the McDonald Park Sound Garden, a project was close to her because she is also the mother of a special needs child.
“The sound garden is a special project,” Burch said following the announcement of the project, spearheaded by the Early High School Leadership Team through the Texas Midwest Community Network. “Having an autistic son, I know how important sensory and motor skills are to autistic children as well as activities for wheelchair bound kids can participate in. We think the sound garden will be beneficial to the community and impact up to 50,000 kids and families in the surrounding areas.”
Burch said in the press release her resignation will be effective Aug. 31 and the chamber is currently accepting applications for its next director. She added she would remain with the chamber working part time after her resignation takes effect and will remain at that position until her replacement can be found.
“I am given my notice as Director as of Aug. 31,” she said. “Some health issues have come up and I will need to step away from my position to devote time for that and family. I will remain part time from that date, until the position is filled. The chamber is currently looking to fill that position and has a job posting on our face book page. Please feel free to contact the chamber if you have any questions or know an individual that would like to apply. Thank you again so very much.”
