Paul Lilly, Republican nominee for Brown County judge in the November general election, issued a statement Thursday afternoon related to his race against write-in candidate Steve Fryar.

Lilly stated:

"I just want to take a minute to thank everyone for your wonderful support. I cannot express in words my sincere appreciation. I do apologize for the tactics of my opponent in this race. He has plainly stated that the only reason he is running as a write-in candidate is because his friend Ray West lost in the Republican Primary.

"Well, Mr. Fryar, the Republican debates have already taken place, way back in March. If you wanted to debate you should have entered as a candidate. I am not going to engage any further in your petty childish games.

"To the people of Brown County I say again I know how tired you are of this slanderous behavior. I promise you that no one is more tired of it all than me. I am so tired of all of the meanness that comes with running for office. Sadly, I have no doubt that before this election is over my opponent will do whatever he can to try and assassinate my character.

"There is little that I can do about that except to warn you that clearly he will do and say anything to try and get elected. I will not do that. That is not the type of person my parents raised me to be and it is most definitely not the type of person our Lord God wants any of us to be. Thank you all again for your unwavering support. God bless each and every one of you."
