Law enforcement officials responded to several recent incidents that involved drugs, alcohol, domestic disturbances and thefts.

Officer Brandon Arnold was dispatched to the 400 block of West Commerce Sunday night on a report of someone trying to buy crack cocaine in the area.

Arnold was told the person had driven away in a blue Chevrolet Lumina. He saw a car matching the description in the parking lot of a nearby convenience store. Arnold went inside and asked a woman who was buying a 40-ounce bottle of beer if she’d arrived in the blue car.

The woman said the car was hers, and Arnold asked her to step outside. Arnold saw a glass crack pipe in the driver’s seat.

Arnold arrested the woman, Benita Watson, 50, of Lubbock, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication, jail records state.

Officer Trey Weathermon saw a pickup drive over a curb at West Commerce and Belle Plain at 2:10 a.m. Monday. Weathermon activated his patrol car’s emergency lights, and the truck swerved from one lane to the other before the driver stopped in the middle of the lane of traffic.

Weathermon told the driver over his public address system to move the pickup out of the road, but he would not. Weathermon then ordered the driver out of the pickup.

“It’s the cops,” Weathermon heard the driver say, directing the comment into the pickup’s interior. There was no one else in the vehicle. Weathermon arrested Pancho Villarreal, 20, on a DWI charge.

The driver said he had not been drinking but had taken prescription medication, Weathermon’s report states.

The driver asked what had happened to the woman in the pickup. Weathermon told the man there was no one else inside.
