The Brown County United Way was greeted with a double portion of good cheer Wednesday.

The 2008 campaign now stands at 88 percent of the drive goal of $325,000, executive director Karen Lynch announced in an e-mail to United Way board members. Since the last report on Dec. 6, when the goal stood at 69 percent completed, significant contributions and pledges have been received from Kohler Co. employees, Lynch said.

Kohler’s corporate office also made an additional contribution to supplement a previous gift, Lynch said.

Meanwhile, collections of pledges made for the 2007 drive have now reached the targeted level, Lynch said, “So the budget for 2007 looks to end on a positive note.”

Because some pledges can’t be fulfilled each year because workers move, change jobs and other reasons, the United Way doesn’t count on collecting 100 percent of its goal, even if that amount is pledged.

The United Way has until the end of February to close out its campaign.
