The Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum will be celebrating a “Choo Choo Christmas” again this December. Christmas decorations, music and special model train layouts being featured daily, and special programs for youngsters will be offered each Saturday. 

On Friday, Dec. 4, after the parade, the museum will hold its grand opening of the Kress Depot from 7 until 10 p.m. in conjunction with the Christmas Under the Stars Festival.

The museum will be open and Santa will be seeing children in the depot, with photos available. On the first three Saturdays, Santa Claus will be in the Kress Depot to talk with children.  Photo opportunities will be available for that special gift for family and friends or Christmas cards. Model railroad club members will be running all of the model layouts and toy trains each Saturday. In  addition the club is holding a drawing for a Lionel train set worth $160. Chances are $2 each or 3 for $5 and the drawing will be held on Dec. 19, just in time for a Christmas present.

On Saturday, Dec. 5, the museum will also present Fort Worth’s “Choo Choo Tim,” who will entertain guests at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. as the Singing Engineer, picking his Q-Chord, telling stories and blowing a whistle. Guests can listen to a concert and see Santa along with numerous operating model and toy trains. Tim will also bring his kiddie train for youngsters to ride outside the museum.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, Railroad Mama will read railroad books chosen especially for the younger crowd – fun, short and just right for the little ones.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, the museum will present a story-telling session for children led by Candace Cooksey Fulton at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. She will be reading the book Polar Express.

Admission for the museum each Saturday in December between now and Christmas will be $2 per person age 5 and up. On Tuesdays through Fridays, admission will be $3 for adults, $2.50 for seniors and $2 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 are always free. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
