Bulletin Staff Report

With summer vacations in full swing, the Fourth of July approaching and many people traveling, United Blood Services is asking blood donors to “bleed red” and gain a chance to win some “green.”

“Holidays often pose a greater need for blood as more regular donors are on vacation,” Sabrina Forse, donor recruitment representative with United Blood Services in

San Angelo, said. “That’s why your donation is needed to help meet the needs of patients in 10 area hospitals, including Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

A blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. today at the TSTC-West Texas Brownwood Center’s parking lot at 305 Booker.

Anyone donating blood at a mobile blood drive during July will automatically be entered in a drawing for the chance to win a $500 Visa Card, UBS officials said. Donors also receive a free T-shirt, and those who donate two red blood cells will get a stainless steel Koozie.

Volunteer donors must be at least age 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

The bloodmobile will be at Wal-Mart in Brownwood on July 14, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownwood on July 20, Songbird Nursing Home on July 22, Brownwood Regional Medical Center on Aug. 7, and Brownwood Police Dept. on Aug. 7.
