“I came home every Friday afternoon, riding the six miles on the back of a big mule. I spent Saturday and Sunday washing and ironing and cooking for the children and went back to my country school on Sunday afternoon.”

- Ida B. Wells

Truth is, not much but the usual is going on today. That will happen with a Saturday, if you’re not careful. It may be the weekend, but you’re faced with sandwiching all those chores necessary for finishing one week and starting the next.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. You could do a couple of those things every night and not have them all to do on Saturday. Or you could enjoy your summer evenings the best you know how, and let the chores slide on Saturday and do something fun - something you’ve been thinking about doing for a long time, if you just had the time.

Now, if you don’t have one of those some day lists started, and you’re short on the want to do’s, we can suggest something fun, happening right here. And, in the very next paragraph, we’ll tell you all about it.

Lyric Theatre production

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged” is being presented by the Lyric Theatre Performing Arts Company and will be staged twice today. The show’s finale is Sunday at the Howard Payne University Theatre behind the Davidson Music Complex.

The show is described a highly improvised, comedic condensation of all of Shakespeare’s plays, boiled down into a two-hour presentation. Lyric officials said the show will be enjoyed by audience members whether or not they are fans of Shakespeare.
