A series of programs featuring local medical specialists along with a variety of screenings are planned today for Senior Resource Day, hosted by the Senior Circle chapter at the Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
The event will be held in the former Corral West store area at Heartland Mall.
All events for the day are free of charge, and participants do not have to be members of Senior Circle.
The schedule will begin with a series of speakers with the first being David Smith, M.D., gerontologist, speaking on “Dealing with Dementia” at 10:15 a.m.
At 11:15 a.m. Bohn Young, M.D., podiatrist, will speak on “Caring for the Aging Foot,” followed by the “Basics of a Sleep Study” by William Loyd, BRMC’s director of cardiopulmonary, at 1 p.m.
During and between the series of guest speakers, a series of information sessions will also be available.
At 11 a.m. there will be a half-hour session on “Medicare Supplemental/ Prescription Drug Policy” with a second session at 1 p.m.
Following the 11 a.m. information session, a session will be conducted on “Pre-planning Burial Policy” for half an hour at noon.
Free screenings involving vision, hearing, cholesterol, glucose, body fat analysis and blood pressure screenings will also be available.
Informational booths on, “Cooking for One/Two,” Access Senior Work Program, Ostomy Support Group, Angel Food Ministries, Animal Center information and others are planned.
