Brownwood area residents who are looking for fellowship on Christmas Day, or who have no other way to provide a holiday meal, are invited to dinner today at the Brownwood Salvation Army Service Center, 403 Lakeway.
Serving times will be from noon to 1 p.m., Donna Harris, executive director of the service center, said.
Meanwhile, volunteers are still being recruited to help prepare the meal. Those interesting in helping are welcome to come to the center any time between 8 a.m. and noon.
“On Christmas Day, volunteers will gather together to prepare a basic traditional dinner for others,” Harris said. “If you are going to be alone on Christmas, please try to come for dinner.”
Earlier this week, Harris said the center was accepting donations of stuffing mixes, canned chicken broth, sage, eggs margarine, canned cream, cranberry sauce, desserts and rolls to help fill out today’s menu.
Preparing such meals is not a new exercise for the Salvation Army and its supporters here. Through the Loaves and Fishes program, nutritious lunches are served to all who will come on weekdays throughout the year.
To celebrate Christmas, today’s meal is expected to a special treat.
