The list of items to be auctioned Wednesday at the local benefit for West Texas Rehab is growing.
Items that range from antique and unique to incredible and neat, and perhaps wild and zany are going on the auction block Wednesday at the Adams Street Community Center. The event opens with a silent auction, at 10 a.m. From 12:30 to 1 p.m., a live auction of select items will be getting underway. Other activities include a Heartland Cruiser Car Show and a live radio remote program with KOXE. Starting at 11:30 a.m., everyone is invited to be the Rehab’s guests for hamburgers cooked by the Chuckwagon crew. For those on their lunch hour, the event is planned so they are able to enjoy a meal while supporting the Center.
Auction items will vary from baked goods, arts and crafts, agricultural items to general merchandise.
“We’ve had some very impressive donations,” said Marjorie Cloud, donor relations director for the Rehab Center in Abilene. “It’s just a neat assortment of things. I guess we always say, ‘something for everyone,’ but this is more like a couple of things for everyone.”
Items going on the auction block include such things as a one-night stay at the LaQuinta Inn in Fredericksburg; charcoal grill; decorative ceramic urn; pallet of landscape stone, portable ag sprayer, hand-crafted rocking horse, car washes and gift certificates; Texas Longhorn plaques and a University of Texas Santa; an antique “Goofus” berry bowl set; a crystal bowl; and several pieces of original art.
Heading up this year’s local round-up program are Seale Cutbirth, Calvin Fryar, Evy Winn and Rex Tackett, along with the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club lending a helping-hand. Local support sponsors who have partnered with the Rehab for Round-Up 2008 include Citizens National Bank, Dr Pepper, Brownwood Bulletin, Wendlee Broadcasting/KXYL and KOXE.
Corporate friends of Rehab that have stepped forward as major Round-Up sponsors are Area Farm Credit Associations, Family PowerSports, Group IV-Member Owned Electric Cooperatives, Lone Star Beef Processors, Strongpoint/Pied Piper Pet & Wildlife and Wrangler. Heartland Alliance of America/Farm & Ranch Healthcare continues as the Rehab’s Chuck Wagon sponsor.
