Two brothers were indicted on burglary and assault charges in connection with a June 13 incident that included a struggle with Brownwood police.
The July session of the Brown County Grand Jury returned indictments July 5 against Norman Baggett Jr., 39, for burglary of a habitation and aggravated assault against a public servant. Grand jurors indicted Jeremiah Baggett, 31, for burglary of a habitation and assault against a public servant, 35th District Court records state.
In the June 13 incident, a man threw a knife at a Brownwood police officer, his brother was shot with police Tasers and both were arrested on multiple charges when officers responded to a burglary-in-progress call.
Officers Brandon Arnold and Danny Hutchins were dispatched to a report of a burglary in progress in the 1400 block of Avenue B, according to Hutchins’ initial report.
A woman told a dispatcher someone was beating on her home’s front door and had just broken out a window. She said she and her family were in a hallway in the center of the home, Hutchins reported.
The officers encountered two suspects outside, and one of them swung at Hutchins, hitting his arm, then took up a fighting stance against Arnold, officers reported. He was arrested after both officers shot him with Tasers.
The other suspect ran in a house, and Arnold and Cpl. Mike Sheedy went inside and found him. Despite being handcuffed, the suspect managed to pull a pocket knife out of his pocket and throw it at Arnold, missing him, Hutchins’ report states.
Grand jurors returned 42 indictments.
