A busy week faces the governing bodies of many local entities as deadlines for budget and tax rate hearings loom.

City council members in both Brownwood and Early will hold hearings on their tax rate Tuesday, with Brownwood’s council meeting at 9 a.m. and Early’s council meeting at 6 p.m. In Early, the council will also consider adopting a resolution requesting financial water improvement assistance from the Texas Water Development Board, and hear reports from the “Center” Committee, the Liaison Committee and the city administrator.

Meetings will be held at their respective city halls.

Brown County Commissioners will conduct a budget workshop as part of a 1:30 p.m. Wednesday special meeting. The court will meet at the commissioners courtroom on the first floor of the Brown County Courthouse.

The Brownwood school board has scheduled a public hearing on its 2008-2009 budget and proposed tax rate at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Afterward, the board will consider adoption of the budget and tax rate, amend the current year’s budgets, approve a proposed expenditure target resolution and possible enter a closed session for personnel matters. The meeting will be held at 2707 Southside Dr., the central administrative office.

Early school board members will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a public discussion of its budget and proposed tax rate, then consider approval. A closed session for personnel is also on the agenda, with any possible action to be held in open meeting. Trustees will meet at the library of the elementary school.

The Bangs school board will hold a budget hearing on its 2008-2009 budget at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. At a second meeting to follow, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., the board will consider adopting the budget and tax rate for the coming year. Trustees meet at the administration building, 200 E. Hall.
